Roman glass is truly unique and has been preserved for centuries. It’s no longer manufactured, so there’s only a limited quantity available in the world. Roman glass was made with sand, nitrate, and a massive amount of heat — a process that was much harder to achieve in ancient Roman times than it would be in the present day and age. To give the glass its distinct color, glassmakers would add various metal oxides, such as potassium or magnesium, to give each piece a different hue. This glass was widely utilized throughout the time of the Roman Empire, found in vases, mosaic tiles, bottles, and more.
