The xylophone is a percussive instrument with wooden bars arranged from shortest to longest, with each bar resonating with a specific tone. The xylophone has a crisp, sharp tone that produces a full and resonant sound when struck with a mallet. The word xylophone originates from the Greek words xylon, which means wooden, and phone, which translates to voice. The instrument is believed to have its earliest origins in Asia and/or Africa, originally made of pieces of wood fastened to a gourd and struck with spoons.
