In Pagan and Wiccan tradition – as in Native American traditions – names are given to each full moon. Wiccan custom names October’s full moon the Blood Moon. It is also known in Native American tradition as the Hunter’s Moon, because it signifies the time when hunters need to go out and acquire enough food to last through the winter.
The magic of these Blood Moon candles
This moon is also called the Shedding Moon or the Falling Leaf Moon. The full moon in October is the first full moon after the Fall Equinox, and will occur before daylight savings time ends, as the days become shortened with winter’s ever-increasing presence. We are now entering the dark phase of the Wheel of the Year, and this full moon signals the impending arrival of Samhain and Halloween. The nights grow crisp, and the veil between the realms of the living and the dead grows thin. There is a greater window during this time for working with the spirit realm, your ancestors and spirit guides, and asking for support from Source. And what better time to do this work than at the full moon, when energies are at their highest point of the phase?
This candle is made with rolled sheets of red and black beeswax, anointed with my Full Moon perfume blend, and pieces of moonstone are scattered throughout the wax.
Light this candle during your October full moon ritual, to create a warm channel – and a warm welcome – to the Spirit Realm.
Full Moon Blessings,
