Vivianite is well known to darken when exposed to to light. This is caused by a chemical transformation of the iron, which is responsible for the color deepening and the subsequent decrease in transparency. Continued exposure will eventually turn a specimen black and make it completely opaque. Certain specimens may be unstable and form cracks along cleavage surfaces when exposed to light, as well. Due to this instability, I recommended keeping your vivianite specimen out of any light except for when you working with it.
