I went hunting for blood jasper in Tucson recently and found some great specimens! I’m so excited to be able to offer these great stones to you. Bloodstones are a variety of chalcedony, which is a crypto crystalline quartz. This means that any crystal formations are too small to be seen with the naked eye. But what is clearly visible is their beautiful red-black color, dissected by the white veins running throughout.

I always love the connection gemstones have with history and folklore. These blood jaspers are really some of the most intriguing stones in my collection. In general, the name jasper is derived from the Greek word for “spotted stone,” referring to its typical multicolored, striped, spotted or flamed appearance. The ancient Greeks actually believed these red spots represented droplets of blood, and hence the “blood jasper,” or sanguine jasper.

Ancient folklore described these stones as the perfect weapon for warriors or other conflict-ridden souls because they stopped blood from falling. History tells us that wives would even give these stones to their warrior husbands to carry with them in order to stop the bleeding from any flying arrow or slashing sword.

Every time I look at these gorgeous polished blood jaspers, I recall the great history surrounding them. That’s why I think they make awesome gifts for any modern day executive warrior or battle-weary individual. They look awesome as desk decor or even as a simple necklace stone. But wherever you display these great Tucson finds, you will receive comments and praise, I assure you.

This listing is for (1) piece of tumbled blood jasper, about 0.75-1″ in size, which will come gift-bagged in organza with a card describing the stone’s properties. Each piece is chosen carefully and vetted for quality. Shop with confidence.
