Throughout the past several months, we have greatly expanded our knowledge of various stones and I am now excited to introduce you to the power and symbolism of runes. Get ready, as we will be covering two runes every month throughout the coming year.
Runes have been used in many magical ways since the beginning of recorded history. They’re a primordial form of psychological assessment, and they were cast and read by oracles much the same way we use Tarot cards or the I Ching. And long before that, runes were actually part of a now-forgotten language.
Runes are derived from an ancient alphabet – about 18,000 years old – whose roots can be heard in Celtic and Viking languages, and even modern German. However, Runic was probably never a spoken language. Even from the earliest inception, runes were used exclusively as a magical and ritual language. This was an elite language just for magical practitioners.
The magic of thurisaz and ansuz runes
This month we will begin deciphering two runes, thurisaz and ansuz. The literal translation of thurisaz is thorn. This rune is interpreted not only as a warning sign against potentially destructive forces, but also as an opportunity for transmuting these forces, as they can be used for positivity and growth. Regardless, thurisaz should be interpreted as a sign of impending change. In other words, thurisaz represents foreshadowing. Ansuz, on the other hand, means mouth. Ansuz is interpreted as a divinatory rune, reminding us that we already possess all the knowledge we are seeking. Ansuz suggests that everything is as it is meant to be.
Your May Month of Magic set will include the following tools.
First in this set is a pair of wooden tea light holders. Carved from maple and etched with the rune for thurisaz and ansuz, these are beautiful treasures you will love incorporating into all your ritual work. Your tea light holder will come with an intuitive tea light.
After that, you’ll receive two wooden runes which have been etched with the symbol for thurisaz and ansuz. Your pair of runes will also include a leather card to describe the meaning of each rune. Please note that this is genuine leather which will age and change over time.
Next you will receive a duo of Thurisaz and Ansuz perfumes. With notes of bergamot, lavender, and jasmine my Thurisaz perfume is a divinatory blend. My Ansuz perfume is an empowering blend, made with notes of patchouli, ginger, and Palo Santo.
Lastly, you will receive a piece of black sapphire to correspond with thurisaz and a piece of chrysocolla in quartz to correspond with ansuz. Black sapphires are grounding and deflective stones, warding off negativity and maintaining calm throughout chaotic situations. Chrysocolla in quartz will nurture you with its Divine Feminine energy and help steer you in the right direction, while the quartz will further magnify and amplify its power and reach.
