Spurrite was named for the American geologist who collected the first specimens of this gem, Josiah Edward Spurr. It’s produced by high-temperature contact metamorphism between the areas where carbonate rocks meet mafic magmas. This specific type of spurrite is a silication of limestone bands in xenolith.
