Clever and seductive, she was just as well-known for her romantic liaisons as she was for her powerful reign. In her famed affairs with both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, Cleopatra secured protection for her crown and the nation itself. One of the most famous ways she seduced such powerful and revered men? Though much of Cleopatra’s legacy remains shrouded in mystery, people have been able to unveil some of the scents she likely wore by studying the remains of ancient Egyptian apothecary bottles discovered by archaeologists. For years, these archaeologists headed digs at Tell-El Timai, a site that was once known as the city of Thmuis and home to some of the ancient world’s most famed perfumes, including Mendesian. Mendesian was known as the “Chanel No. 5 of ancient Egypt” and I’ve recreated it in this blend, lacing it with myrrh of the finest quality, several different pine resins, and a touch of cassia – all suspended in a combination of desert date and olive oil, the carrier oils likely used in ancient times. Back then, these ingredients probably took years for the Egyptians to source, and I’m so excited to offer them in this special blend now. To add to the magic, I’ve also infused every bottle with a lapis lazuli chip stone – an intuition-strengthening gem that was prized by Cleopatra herself.
