A new way to view the Solstice

I feel the Solstice in my bones and my skin before it comes. A shifting, a renewal. A turning of the Great Wheel that propels us all forward into a future that holds infinite possibility. It’s a time of great anticipation, marked and honored by our ancestors since time began. Solstice comes from the Latin sol (sun) sistere (stand still) and it’s a divine midway point, a portal into the third space, and the great divider of time and space. The longest day of the year in the North, the longest night of the year in the South, has arrived.

There are many pagan rites and rituals online and held in groups to honor this day and the element of fire, which represent the light we are either receiving here above the equator line. But to me, the Summer Solstice is a bridge between the first and last halves of the year. It’s your wake-up call to get moving. If 2015 isn’t quite turning out the way you imagined it would, what can you begin doing TODAY that will change the outcome? You are steering this ship. Where are you leading it?

For ritual on this evening, light a yellow or orange candle in the north to represent fire (a black or maroon candle in the south to represent darkness) and visualize yourself crossing a great bridge. The land you leave on one side is what has already been this year. The land you approach on the other side is All that awaits you. What does your future look like? Who are you taking with you into the months ahead? Who are you leaving behind? What new opportunities, experiences, jobs, connections do you wish to experience? Visualize what might come to pass as you gaze into your candle’s flame. Then ask the Universe to bring your dreams to life, for the highest good of all around you. And close, always, with “So it is.” Tonight’s a great night also to divine what lies ahead in the year. Read your tarot, scry in your spheres and mirrors, run your pendulum and see what insight you gather.

So it is! May your Solstice celebrations wherever you are be blessed and may the next six months be the best of this year for you. That’s my wish. I hope your life continues to surprise you in powerful and joyous ways. Always. Aho.
