Magic of Norse

Skadi is a giantess and the Norse Goddess of winter, snow, skiing and the hunt. Skadi is also the stepmother to Freyr and Freyja. Skadi is a symbol of independence and strength for women. She is fierce in her stand for equality with the male Gods and does not back down when she puts her mind to something.

Skadi controls the winter, and like many winter goddesses, she is stormy and unpredictable, relentless in her pursuit of justice. She has passion and determination to live life in all its fullness. In the dark of winter, we strive to embrace her wild, untamed spirit and focus on living our lives by our own standards. Skadi also symbolizes the darkness we all go through. Call upon Skadi when you need help moving from the dark into the light.

Loki, the trickster god, fooled Skadi’s father, the giant Thiazzi, into stealing the apples of immortality from the Aesir. Always after his own agenda, Loki betrayed Thiazzi and helped the Aesir (a clan of gods) kill him. Skadi demanded retribution, and in a peaceful manner (which was always her style), she settled for a marriage to Njord. Out of respect, Odin (Allfather) took her father’s eyes and scattered them over the night sky to help her get over the sadness she felt over the loss of her father. It is said that Thiazzi, to this day, watches over his lands.

Iolite for Skadi’s skis

Planet: Saturn
Zodiac: Libra, Taurus, Sagittarius, Pisces
Element: Air
Quality: Feminine
Chakra: Crown, Third Eye

Hailed by the Vikings for its incredible Third Eye-opening powers, Iolite is a stone of guidance and knowledge. This gem will aid you in deepening your meditation practice and psychic abilities. Iolite draws a strong energetic link between your brain and heart. With this connection, Iolite helps you understand what your heart truly wants. Viking explorers who regularly traveled far into the vast Atlantic Ocean, away from all civilization and land, would use thin pieces of Iolite as the world’s first polarizing filter. Looking through an Iolite lens, they determined the exact location of the sun so they could navigate safely to the New World and back

  • Discussion Question: What stone do you use to guide your meditations?

Namibian Lucky Quartz for Skadi’s Wolf

Planet: Saturn
Zodiac: Sagittarius, Aries, Aquarius
Element: Fire
Quality: Masculine
Chakra: Crown, Third Eye

Namibian Lucky Quartz is a rare and deeply healing quartz that consists of hematite and lepidocrocite. Hematite is a Root Chakra stone of grounding, hope, trust, and surrender to the Universe. It roots us deeply in the Earth’s stability and balances the body, stabilizing our equilibrium and helping both ethereal and physical systems remain aligned. Lepidocrocite brings the gift of deep emotional healing. This calming stone emits a high vibrational golden light that serves as a barricade keeping out negativity and any lower frequency energies. When these two crystals combine, as they have in Namibian Lucky Quartz, you have an ally and aid that will guide you into the crevices of your mind, body, and spirit, exposing and healing that which is ready to be recovered and released

  • Discussion Question: Do you have a favorite Root Chakra stone?

Sodalite for Skadi’s Bow and Arrow

It prevents nightmares, allowing for messages from Source to come through to you in your dreams. Sodalite banishes fear and anxiety and also releases any fears that are preventing you from reaching your fullest potential. Sodalite activates the Third Eye Chakra, deepening your intuition and perhaps most importantly, helps you trust your intuition, allowing you to act upon it when needed.

  • Discussion Question: Which stones do you use to explore your thoughts and memories?

Acrylic Grid

To channel Skadi and the magic of these stones, this acrylic grid was designed with images of the many symbols of Skadi. May it connect you deeply with the essence and attributes of this goddess.

Place your black phantom quartz at the center of the grid, on the image of Skadi. Black phantom quartz is used in meditation to bring light into dark aspects of the self. When Skadi’s energy is combined with that of black phantom quartz, you are supported in reclaiming your self-worth with more power and optimism.

Place your sodalite on the symbol for the bow and arrow at the upper left corner. Sodalite was chosen for this symbol because it acts like your greatest weapon – your mind. Sodalite provides access to the subconscious and intuitive abilities and enhances mental performance.

Place your Jacinto De Compostela Quartz on the symbol for the snowflake, at the upper right corner. Snowflakes are nature’s intricate work of love and art, but they are fleeting. Snowflakes, like our dreams, tell stories of travels through clouds. Jacinto De Compostela was chosen for this symbol because it helps you see through the clouds in meditation. It helps you remember precious moments, fleeting thoughts, and restores your spirit so you may fight the bitter cold aspects of your life.

Place your Namibian Lucky Quartz on the symbol of the wolf, at the lower left corner. Skadi’s wolf kept her grounded and in touch with nature, just as Namibian Lucky Quartz provides grounding, allowing you to surrender to the beauty of the world around you.

Place your iolite on the symbol of the skis, at the lower right corner. Skis are the symbol of swiftness, and that’s why I chose iolite for this corner – to help you go through life’s hardships with ease.
