October Gem Wise Purchase
Welcome to a new month of Gem Wise! I am so excited to take this journey deeper into the world of gems and crystals with you. No matter if you’re brand new to gems or more experienced and knowledgeable, this class is a place for all to take their learning deeper. If you’re new to Gem Wise, welcome! And if you were with me in August and September, I hope you enjoyed our classrooms on orthorhombic and triclinic crystal structure.
To start with, you must remember that crystals grow naturally in the shape of polyhedra, which are solid shapes whose faces are polygons. Crystals are the closest physical representations of the Platonic Solids that we have. Though they are not perfectly formed as Plato’s ideals were, they offer us a good tangible example.
This month, we will be focusing on amorphous crystal structure. You received gorgeous examples of this structure in your Gem Wise kits – lava stone, fire opal, and an enchanting obsidian palm stone printed with “wisdom”, which corresponds to this month’s overall course curriculum for protection and ancestral or extraterrestrial wisdom. Moldavite also came forward offering its support, so you will receive this fourth gemstone with your kit this month. When a gift of the Earth, and beyond, specifically makes itself known and available, I am honored to share its medicine with you.
As beings searching and striving for our Soul Purpose, we must have access to our own inner wisdom and deep knowing. If we’re unable to tap into our innate vision, we must practice the energetic work required to uncover it. And we can look to specific crystal energies to activate this latent store of liminal sight. Certain distinct stones and gems vibrate at the exact right frequency to crack your untapped field of vision wide open. They are powerful tools we can use to magnify and direct energy. Crystal structure is truly a magical thing.
Amorphous Crystals
Amorphous crystals fall into the scientific category amorphous solids. Amorphous solids occur both naturally and in man-made materials. In condensed matter physics and material science, an amorphous (meaning without shape) lacks the long-range order characteristics of a crystal. Amorphous solids have a disordered internal structure and do not have a definite geometrical shape. Crystals, by definition, are formed from an ordered arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules. Amorphous crystals are made up of particles that are randomly arranged in three dimension and have identical properties along all axes. Amorphous solids are formed due to the sudden cooling of a liquid, melt over a wide range of temperatures, and break to form irregular or curved shapes.
The structure of an amorphous solid is virtually indistinguishable from a liquid. They are commonly described as solids that flow like liquids, or liquids that don’t flow. While the structure of amorphous solids is not ordered, they still hold a structure, made up of interconnected structural blocks. There is an inherent quality of mysteriousness in these formations – a mutability creating room for transitions, flexibility, and movement even in solidification. Amorphous crystals exemplify change; the whole process of changing, and the wisdom found in what may not be as it seems.
Rubber, glass, plastic, cement, paraffin, polymers, gels, cotton candy, and caramel are some examples of amorphous solids. There are fewer to be found in nature, which adds to the sense of wonder they evoke. Amber, obsidian, limonite, moldavite, opal, and lava stone are among the amorphous crystals.
If you are seeking access to wisdom from alternate realities and realms, amorphous crystals are your allies. Due to their indeterminate nature, they allow energy to pass through freely. They are less encumbered by form and definition, facilitating connection and communication with other-worldly dimensions and beings. Amorphous crystals carry the medicine of growth and are catalysts of change and transformation. These amazing creations act rapidly – when you invoke their support, expect shifts in consciousness and in your life.

Lava Stone
“I am grounded in the center of myself. My inner fire is ignited and I trust in my intuition. I open my mind and heart to receive ancient wisdom and protection. I honor my connection with Mother Earth and the fire and earth of my own nature. I am safe to transform – to be reborn .”
Lava stone is intimately connected with the Earth, having formed from molten lava. It is rich in minerals contained within Earth’s deepest core. Combining the elemental powers of fire and earth, lava stone offers protective and grounding properties while catalyzing fiery passion and transformation. Using lava stone in your practice and ritual will increase your capacity to connect with Mother Earth, and the very center of her life force. The Earth holds ages of memories and ancient wisdom within her body.
Lava is a force to be reckoned with, a product of earth movement and fiery lava flow – it signifies a molten core of fire energy burning through what no longer serves you energetically. It promotes strength and stamina, generously offering stability as you go through dynamic life changes. In addition, it effectively diminishes negativity and anger, promoting peace. Given its nature and its source, lava offers the best of grounding, centering, and healing properties.
Lava stone is also known as a Third Eye gemstone, a symbol of the omnipotent Third Eye of the Hindu god, Shiva. The Third Eye of Shiva is associated with spikes in spiritual wisdom. This stone will awaken your intuitive fire within, while surrounding you with the stable and secure energy of earth.
Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes. In Hawaiian folklore, she pours her lava in the sea and creates sacred land – she represents the cycle of destruction and creation. She is ultimately a goddess of rebirth, embodying the element of fire as it burns the earth clean, thus performing the ultimate purification, and purging what is ready to be shed and released. But she doesn’t stop with this phase, she continually sets new breathtaking foundations, represented by lava. I made sure the lava in your kits, and the pieces I stock in my shop, did NOT come from the Hawaiian Islands, in case you are worried about invoking Pele’s wrath pertaining to the native belief that her energy is attached to Hawaiian lava rock. These myths around Pele and lava rock further reveal the sanctity of this stone and its association with the gods and goddesses.
Fire Opal
“I am creative inspiration in the world. I move beyond my fears and inhibitions with amazing courage. I reclaim my inherent right to express myself with joy and conviction. The bliss and ecstasy of spiritual union are mine to enjoy. I receive the pleasure of my passion.”
The main source of fire opal is Mexico. Fire opal is named for its color, which ranges from vivid red to orange, peach, and yellow. Historically, fire opal was sacred to Indian, Mayan, Aztec and Persian cultures as the most potent love stone in the world. It is known for awakening passion, and once your passion is awakened, you can channel it in many different directions. Fire opal will heighten the pleasure of your experiences associated with the activation and movement of passion. It is said to carry a frequency of ecstasy, stimulating the Root and Sacral Chakras, often associated with Kundalini energy.
The “fire” in fire opal is used to ignite flashes of intuition and insight. This fire represents your inner fire, and your inherent ability to connect with the spirit realm and the great Mystery. The spark of life is ever-present, and if you feel your energy waning, or your heart growing heavy, call on fire opal to rekindle your inner flame, your hope in the future, and faith in yourself.
From a spiritual perspective, fire opal is an amazing companion. It facilitates spiritual abandon experienced through creative expression, such as art, music, dance and sex. This gemstone is perfectly aligned for those desirous of channeling emotional and spiritual energy through artistic mediums. Stimulating the creative center, curiosity, and inspiration, fire opal is like a flame of positive excitement and fertility. It will arouse your sexuality, creativity, and spiritual enlightenment. How you personally work with this energy is up to you, but don’t underestimate the power of fire opal to set things ablaze.
Obsidian
“I stand in my power, embracing the light and dark. I welcome the wisdom of my ancestors and of all beings in service of my Highest Good. In gratitude, I receive the blessings of protection and purification. I am free to explore the Universe, while retaining my sacred physical anchor.”
Obsidian is glass-like volcanic rock, and is sometimes banded or has inclusions of microlites (tiny crystals). Because is breaks with a sharp fracture, obsidian has been used for making tools and arrowheads since Paleolithic times. It is currently used in manufacturing surgical scalpel blades as its edges can be crafted to molecular thinness. In the United States, large quantities of obsidian can be found in Yellowstone National Park. It is found in many locations worldwide, where rhyolitic volcanic eruptions have occurred.
Obsidian has a long history of uncovering unconscious thoughts and patterns that are preventing you from achieving optimal spiritual and personal growth. It is likened to the glass of a mirror, as it is able to reflect things that need changing, as well as provide a clear vision of how to manifest the desired changes. It can open you to the bigger and truer picture, providing direct, pointed feedback that you can immediately incorporate for the Highest Good. Obsidian is also effective in all forms of divination and scrying. It facilitates communication with spirits and ancestors. Gazing into a piece of obsidian can serve as a way of connecting with loved ones who have crossed over – this stone is known for its resonance with Soul Realms, reflecting images of those who wish to be seen.
Obsidian is the stone for grounding, letting go, mourning, releasing, and protection. It aids in shadow work, heals tears and holes in the auric field, and reminds you of your inner strength and latent fire. Using obsidian in meditation will help anchor your spirit and consciousness into your body, while protecting your physical connection to the dimension and realm we are presently living in. Obsidian is a powerful cord, hook and attachment severer. It creates a powerful shield that cleanses the field of negative energies, entities and elementals.
Many of you are extremely psychically and emotionally sensitive. While a powerful and sacred gift, heightened sensitivity can be painful without adequate boundaries and self-protection. Obsidian is your champion in this arena. Invoke the strong assurance of this stone to surround you in safety and firm groundedness. Allow obsidian to gently encourage your exploration and acceptance of your darker nature, in order to evolve these facets of yourself. Your sensitivity is a key to accessing the intimate wisdom and communion within yourself, the sentient beings on this planet, and the energies across the Universe.
Moldavite Chip – Bonus Crystal
Moldavite was formed over 15 million years ago and is the only “gem-quality” stone of extraterrestrial origin. Approximately 15 million years ago, a large meteorite crashed in what is now known as the Czech Republic. Moldavite is a member of the Tektite group – classified as small glossy objects believed to have been formed as molten debris in meteor impacts. Moldavite specimens are primarily found scattered across the land in this particular area of the Czech Republic, which is the only place these extraterrestrial crystals can be found.
Before I first started working with it, I had never witnessed a stone like moldavite before. It triggers such a strong physical reaction in almost anyone who touches it. These moldavite crystals deepen psychic abilities, open the Third Eye, and facilitate access to the Akashic records. Get ready to catapult your spiritual evolution. Moldavite is one of the extra-magical Synergy 12 stones, which help you work towards opening your heart and mind to all beings. Moldavite is known as a “stone to serve the inhabitants of this planet” and encourages cooperation between Earth and other planets. Moldavite can connect us with a greater sense of belonging and cosmic homecoming, through expansion of vision that incorporates greater understanding and realization.
I’ve known people who refuse to touch moldavite because its properties are so strong, and are often felt immediately. Reactions may range from a slight tingling sensation, to sudden headache and lightheadedness, to severe nausea. There are even some energy healers who refuse to work with moldavite, fearing its unearthly energies may never be able to be fully cleared. It’s true, that as the meteorite entered our atmosphere, it carried foreign energy with it, but which exact properties this stone possesses, and the full extent of its powers, remain a mystery. I will say this: Moldavite is not a beginner stone. If you feel drawn to bring this mystical, other-worldly green stone into your practice, be prepared for its strong vibration. Many experts believe it is here for nothing less than the awakening of humanity through spiritual breakthrough.
